Due to new US federal safety laws coming into action in 1968, Jaguar was forced to alter the Series 1 E-Type for its final production year. These alterations included: open headlights, black rocker switches, relocation of the start-key slot, black and silver ribbed cam-covers, twin cooling fans, and adjustable seats with headrests. These final Series 1 cars were unofficially named “Series 1½”.
This 1968 Series “1½” OTS E-Type benefitted from a large mechanical overhaul after being imported from Canada in late 2015, including a complete suspension and brake restoration with upgrades such as adjustable rear coilovers. E-Type UK then took the car in to make sure it was mechanically and electrically perfect prior to being offered for sale.
Finished in its original combination of Carmen Red exterior with Black interior and hood, this LHD OTS E-Type is also fitted with a Series 2 E-Type bonnet. The car is complete matching numbers with its original 4.2 Litre engine and synchro 4-speed gearbox. The original twin Stromberg Carburettors have been replaced with the earlier and more powerful triple SUs which have recently been rebuilt. This rust-free E-Type represents not only a fantastic classic driving experience, but a great, and useable investment.
