The Series 3 E-Type was introduced in 1971. To ensure the E-Type continued to appeal to the US-market (Jaguar’s biggest buyer), the wheelbase was lengthened, power steering was added as well as Jaguar’s brand new roadgoing V12 engine. These changes made the E-Type a much more comfortable and capable grand tourer. To keep the E-Type in tune with 1970s design, flared wheel arches were added and a redesigned enclosed grille as well as other, more subtle changes.
This 1974 Series 3 OTS is a US-market car and it lived there (predominantly in California before moving to Michigan in 2003) until late 2015, when it was imported to Germany. About a year later we decided to purchase the car and bring it back to its country of origin; we have now decided to list it for sale. Originally this car would have had the large, ugly US-spec over-riders but it has since been converted back to small ones on the front and none on the rear, revealing the beautiful lines of the car once again.
Finished in its fantastic original combination of Old English White with Russet Red interior, this matching numbers E-Type has clearly been cared for and maintained well throughout its lifetime. The car has never been modified or messed with and therefore is in highly original condition throughout. Being a Californian car, the E-Type is also completely rot-free and luckily this one does not have a typical Californian interior!
Series 3 E-Types are currently one of the best investments money can buy, they are becoming increasingly appreciated by classic car collectors as brilliant and stylish Grand-Tourers. We believe they are still very well valued compared to Series 1 E-Types as well as other classics in the GT class.
