Released in 1961, the E-type helped cement Jaguar as one of the most popular automotive exporters to the U.S market. The popularity of the E-type was further enhanced by the release in late 1964 of the Jaguar 4.2 litre engine, built to compete with the larger V8 engines used in US sports cars at the time. Providing more torque, the 4.2 litre engine launch coincided with the release of the much more advanced 4-speed synchro gearbox, along with other details that hugely improved both the usability and driving experience of the E-Type.
This matching numbers Series 1 4.2 OTS was built on 14th September 1966 and dispatched to New York, USA on 3rd October 1966. The first owner Barbara Devonne of Northern California purchased the car from her local dealer and allegedly owned the car all the way up to 2002 when it was sold and subsequently parked up for the next 9 years with only 47,000 miles on the odometer. Having had only 2 US owners the car was then sold to E-Type UK who imported it back to the UK, and registered and MOT’d the car.
E-Type UK sold the car to its current owner who commissioned a full nut and bolt restoration by an independent, experienced specialist. During this 2013 restoration, the E-Type was converted to RHD as well as upgraded with electronic ignition and uprated electric cooling fan to ensure the car performs well in modern traffic. Once the restoration was complete, a full check over was completed by E-Type UK to ensure everything on the car was correct. Finished in its original colour combination of Pale Primrose Yellow with Black interior and Black hood, it is retained in fantastic cosmetic and mechanical condition.
Due to being built to original mechanical specification too, this E-Type is a joy to drive. A brilliant investment that is ready to be both used and admired, if you are interested in this lovely 3-owner example please email Marcus or call us on 01732 852762.
