Released in 1961, the E-type helped cement Jaguar as one of the most popular automotive exporters to the U.S market. The popularity of the E-type was further enhanced by the release in late 1964 of the Jaguar 4.2 litre engine, built to compete with the larger V8 engines used in US sports cars at the time. Providing more torque, the 4.2 litre engine launch coincided with the release of the much more advanced 4-speed synchro gearbox, hugely improving both the usability and driving experience of the E-Type.
This 1967 4.2 OTS was imported by us from the dry climate of South California very recently, and is now awaiting its first UK-owner. Manufactured on 17th May 1967 and exported to New York, USA on 7th June, the car was then sent to a dealer believed to be in Tennessee where its first owner, William G. Tally, took delivery.
This E-Type was lightly restored to a high standard in the US, where the original colour of Opalescent Golden Sand with Light Tan interior was changed for British Racing Green with Biscuit interior. The original 4.2 engine and synchro gearbox were retained meaning the car is fully matching numbers.
Aside from modern electronic ignition to improve reliability, this OTS example was finished to completely original mechanical specification, often praised as the purest E-Type driving experience. The car comes complete with its original handbook, heritage certificate and other original maintenance documents.
It is evident that the car has been cared for and maintained very well since its rebuild, this beautiful BRG 4.2 OTS represents both a great investment and a classic to enjoy for many years to come. The car will come with a full MOT and will be completely UK-registered.
