Never initially built for the track, the Jaguar E-Type took its sweeping bodywork and aerodynamics from its older siblings the C-type and D-type. The E-Type’s first race came one month after its 1961 launch at the Geneva Motor Show, a pair of E-Types driven by future F1 legend Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori at Oulton Park. Other well-known drivers, such as Mike Parkes and Bruce Mclaren, went on to win several races in Jaguar E-Types at Goodwood, Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
After countless wins across the globe, Jaguar decided to produce a limited run of just 18 Lightweight E-types, designed with full aluminium bodies and resembling an open-top roadster but fitted with a coupé-style hardtop. The rumours of the arrival of Jaguars race-spec 350bhp E-type worried Enzo Ferrari, who quickly commissioned a lighter and faster Ferrari 250 GTO. Following the launch of these 18 lightweight models, the racing community quickly began replicating the road going E-Types to resemble a similar design and spec to these limited racing run of cars.
Originally leaving the factory in March 1963, finished in Carmen Red with matching red interior, this competition specification racer was first raced prepared in 2001. A prime historic racing contender with a rebuilt Rob Beere engine, fast-crank starter motor and alloy radiator and bonnet. A race car just waiting to take its rightful place in pole position.
The E-Type was initially built to compete in the ‘E-Type Racing Experience Series’ celebrating the 40th anniversary of the E-Type. The event was an ‘arrive and drive’ nine-round championship, where each car was prepared, transported and maintained by the event organisers. Entrants would simply ‘arrive and drive’ a competition racer at the hefty price tag of £75,000 per season. First recorded racing driver for this competition E-Type was non-other than historic racing legend, Barrie ‘Whizzo’ Williams at Donington Park 2001.
For some plus 50 years, Barrie ‘Whizzo’ Williams raced anything and everything he could get his hands on, later in his racing career becoming known for his uncanny ability to achieve the maximum pace from even the most challenging race cars.
Starting his career in Yorkshire 1960, it didn’t take Williams long to start taking home gold with his first big win in the 1964 Welsh Rally in his Mini Cooper S. Throughout the 70’s and 80’s ‘Whizzo’ made is name in racing a range of saloon and touring cars as well as racing for works Colt team in the British Touring Car Championship. His successful career even saw several wins at the Goodwood TT Celebration 1998 in Nigel Corner’s Jaguar E-Type, another 60’s racing legend.
After retiring from racing towards the end of 2017, Williams motorsport passion never faded with him serving as the British Motorsport Marshals’ Club president until his recent passing in September 2018.
In 2007, Peter Newman of Hertfordshire, owner of the racer at the time, began to prepare the car to Historical Technical Passport specification for Period F 1962 to 1965 in the FIA Class: GTS12. The E-Type was also issued with HTP papers on 2nd May 2007, where at the same time the engine was given to racing specialist Rob Beere for a full rebuild and new cylinder head. Once returned the racer produced an impressive 321 bhp which is confirmed by the supplied Rob Beere dynamometer printout included in the cars extensive history folder.
With a successful racing career to date, the E-Type is presented in great clean condition with little to no competition racing damages. Now finished in an eye-catching colour combo of Cream and Blue racing stripes running from bumper to bumper. With a stripped back and de-chromed racing finish the E-Type features external bonnet locks, leather safety straps, perspex headlight covers and Dunlop cast wheels.
Drop into the FIA compliant Tillett bucket seats, strap into the Schroth ASM harnesses and grip tightly to the Sabelt racing steering wheel as the rebuilt Rob Beere Jaguar 3.8 litre engine fitted with a Weber set up takes your around the track and tightly through the corners with a close-ratio synchromesh gearbox. You’ll be surrounded by a full racing specification dash, fully welded-in roll cage, plumbed-in fire system and lightweight windows. Other racing specifications include:

- 140-litre FIA fuel tank with a valid pump dry system
- Aluminium radiator and header tank
- New bell housing
- Fast crank starter motor
- Limited slip differential (rebuilt by GKN)
This FIA registered (until 2025) racing E-Type is eligible for FIA series such as the Masters, Classic Le Mans, Spa 6 hours, GT and Sports Car Cup.
