1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 RHD Restoration
MORE ABOUT THIS CAR...
A highly sought-after UK right-hand drive, full matching numbers, low mileage and low owner 1967 Series 1 Coupe joins the E-Type UK workshop waiting for full restoration. One of the last Seires 1 RHD Coupe before the "one 1/2" series, and offering a prime base for any Jaguar enthusiast looking to begin their very own E-type UK story.
Having rolled off the Browns Lane production line in May 1967, finished in Carmen Red over elegant Black leather, this Coupe was later sold through Henlys, Bournemouth June that. year, given registration ‘KEL 717E’. After a short period and due to unforeseen circumstances the E-type was sold on to a close friend just 2 years later. Now the second owner, Mr M Barlow-Vaughan and his new E-type left Bournemouth and made their way to Bampton, Oxfordshire to run the historic Ham Court, a 14th-century gatehouse to Bampton Castle, a pillar in British agricultural history.
With Mr Barlow-Vaughan, the E-type entered into its longest ownership totalling nearly four decades. From the early 1980s, the E-type was removed from the road and put away for nearly three years, during this time the DVLA assumed the vehicle had been scrapped and was missed from the National database update, making the car un-taxable and resulting in the loss of its original registration.
Not willing to re-register the E-type without its factory ‘67 registration, Barlow-Vaughan decided to keep the E-type “off the road”, with the exception of a cheeky spin around the private farm lanes to ensure the car was kept in good running condition. Going forward the E-type was regularly checked by an automotive hobbyist farm worker and his son, who lived on the farm at the time.
It was in April 2008 the farmworkers son pulled the E-type out of storage and made Mr Barlow-Vaughan an offer to purchase his now slowly deteriorating ‘Barn-Find’ project. Now the new and third owner, having been born at Ham Court and grown-up knowing the E-type inside and out, the worker's son planned to restore the ‘Barn Find’ to its former glory.
It wasn’t long until the owner managed to return the original UK registration, ‘KEL 717E’, to the E-type and over the last 10 years has been working on the project with the goal of reinstating the glory to his childhood classic. As the years rolled on the owner addressed some areas of concern with the car, purchasing countless engine and suspension auxiliary parts and body panels from well-known and trusted Jaguar suppliers, documenting the purchases in the accompanying history folder. As it usually goes finding time to complete the restoration became harder, resulting in slow progress and inevitably saw the Coupe change hands and later arrived at our Kent-based workshop.
Today this three previous owner Coupe project is offered as a prime restoration contender for an eagerly waiting enthusiast. A highly desirable and rewarding project with the accompanying provenance to match. Featuring its original Black interior with charming aged patina, all original matching number running gears and chassis and believed to be original mileage of 48,100.
A rare opportunity to own a genuine and original Series 1 Coupe, one of the last RHD examples built before the first "one 1/2" models, that encapsulates 1960’s British design.
