MORE ABOUT THIS CAR...
Leaving the production line September 1969 and delivered to British Leyland, New York, this matching numbers example was soon moved to Central Florida’s main and for some 30 years, only certified Jaguar Dealer, Collier Auto Sales. Set up by David F. Collier who began his dealership career in the mid-1950s, mainly dealing in the sales of Studebakers, Collier Auto Sales quickly grew into a well known and respectable family business. After Studebaker folded in 1965, the Collier family changed their focus and signed on with Jaguar following a desire to deal in the new and world-changing racy Jaguar E-type. Collier Auto Sales finalised the sale of this Series 2 Roadster in January 1970, delivering to a very pleased first owner, Mr Edmond M. Lee, Orlando, later returning for its 12,000 mile/12 month service in September the same year.
Believed to have been enjoyed for several years, the Roadster later made its way to the Straub family of Altamonte Springs in 1987, as highlighted by car insurance and registration certificates found in the history folder. Also featured in the E-type’s history file is a collection of restoration photos, which is believed to have been performed around this time, capturing a range of stages of the restoration process including paintwork and its return to its Heritage correct finish of Silver over Dark Blue.
Later years saw the E-type continue to make its way North to Virginia and into the hands of Allan Casavant of Seven Lakes, NC, in the late 1990s. Casavant then sold the car to a William (Bill) Sheldon of Chester, VA in October 2002. During Mr Sheldon’s ownership, he set out to address the minor mechanical frustrations that the E-type had gained over the years. Using a trusted Californian Jaguar XK part specialist, Mr Sheldon purchased the necessary items to keep the car up and running, retaining all the supplier invoices.
It was late in 2015 the Series 2 was sourced from the states by a North Yorkshire British classic sports cars specialist and supplied to the current owner. Following years of servicing and regular upkeep, the E-type can be seen today in stunning condition, offering a great opportunity to own a piece of Jaguar engineering history.
As a result of careful ownership, the restored factory correct Silver paintwork still retains a deep shine, showing no signs of rust and much the same can be said for the exterior chrome and bumpers. As you take your place behind the three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, you are offered a warm welcome by a clean and well-maintained black dash and instrument panel, also fitted with a ‘RetroSound’ radio and USB connectivity. The matching Dark Blue seats, carpet and door panels are all in equally good condition with few signs of usage, providing a comfortable driving position.
Having turned the key and woken that famous 4.2 XK engine, the E-type provides a classic drive with smooth-running performance pulling well through each gear of its original 4-speed gearbox. In the engine bay, you'll find the 4.2 has been treated to minor upgrades including a sports coil and alternator, to aid the overall performance of this iconic machine.
