Lighting is one of the areas where classic cars most clearly reveal their age. The original sealed-beam and halogen headlamps fitted to many classic vehicles were designed for a very different era of driving — quieter roads, lower speeds and far less night-time traffic.
Today, owners expect their cars to be usable across a wider range of conditions, including night driving on modern roads. Improving headlight performance is therefore not simply about brightness, but about clarity, safety and confidence behind the wheel.
At E-Type UK, our approach to headlight upgrades follows the same engineering philosophy applied across the rest of the car: improvements should enhance usability while respecting the character and design of the original vehicle.
MODERN LIGHTING, CLASSIC INTEGRATION
Traditional halogen headlamps produce light by heating a filament inside a gas-filled bulb. While effective in their time, they provide relatively limited output and can struggle to deliver consistent illumination on unlit roads.
Modern LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting works differently. LEDs generate light electronically rather than through heat, allowing them to produce a brighter, more focused beam with significantly lower power consumption.
The result is a dramatic improvement in:

Importantly, modern LED systems can be carefully engineered to integrate within classic headlamp housings, maintaining the visual integrity of the car.
UNLEASHED LED HEADLIGHT CONVERSION
Developed as part of our Unleashed by E-Type UK programme, the LED headlight conversion provides a fully integrated lighting upgrade designed specifically for the E-Type. Rather than simply replacing bulbs, the system introduces a purpose-designed LED unit engineered to deliver modern lighting performance while fitting seamlessly within the car’s original architecture.

HALO DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS
The Unleashed system also incorporates halo-style daytime running lights (DRLs).
Daytime running lights are low-intensity lights designed to improve the visibility of a vehicle during daylight hours. By increasing how easily the car is seen by other road users, DRLs contribute to improved road safety, particularly in mixed traffic conditions.
The halo design forms a subtle illuminated ring around the headlamp, creating a distinctive signature that remains sympathetic to the E-Type’s timeless front-end design.
When integrated properly, the effect is discreet and purposeful — enhancing presence without distracting from the car’s original styling.
ENGINEERING WITH PURPOSE
As with any upgrade, the focus is not simply on adding modern components, but on ensuring they work cohesively with the vehicle.
