MORE ABOUT THIS CAR...

In today’s market, an original right-hand Coupe is by far one of the most desirable E-type models to have rolled out of Browns Lane, just like this fabulous early 1962 example, having left the production line in August 1962 and sold through the iconic Henly’s London dealership just over two weeks later, issued with a UK registration that remains with the car to this day.

Upon leaving the factory late in 1962, the E-type was documented to be finished in Opalescent Silver Blue paired with Dark Blue leather, delivered to its first custodian of Walton-on-the-Hill, Surrey. It is understood the E-type went on to live a well-travelled life making its way up to the history-rich Scottish hills.

It was in 2004 the E-type recorded a sale by Classic Autosports, a Scottish Jaguar specialist, which saw the E-type exchange hands to a Mr Winder, a Cumbrian resident. At the time the car was described to be a “restoration project”, its understood Mr Winder proceeded to restore the 1962 example, completing its transformation late 2005 and returning another 1960's example back to the road.

Emerging from its restoration the E-type was returned to its heritage correct colour combination of Opalescent Silver Blue over Dark Blue trim. With a new rebuilt 3.8 engine (fitted with a block dated 1965) and a 4-speed moss box, the owner had also taken the opportunity to improve the performance, fitting such upgrades as:

  • Koni shocks
  • Dunlop callipers
  • Full stainless-steel exhaust system
  • Recored radiator
  • Uprated Kenlowe fan
  • Electronic ignition
  • Uprated fuel pressure regulator.

The E-type later landed in the hands of businessman turned classic car collector based out of Cumbria. This new owner hit the news in 2007 as he began to scale down his collection, offering several fine examples to the market as well as one particularly desirable UK registrations, ‘CEO 1’. A huge hit with the surrounding Cheif Executives, the auctioned reg later recorded high bids of over £100,000, this among other registrations were taken from the owner existing E-types collection which were later to be offered for sale, one of which is believed to be this 1962 Series 1 Coupe.

It was late 2011 that the Coupe continued to find new custodians and after a brief term with a West Sussex collector and some minor reconditioning, the E-type arrived in its current ownership in January 2012. The E-type has been used sparing, covering less than 1,000 miles across the 8 years it has resided in Essex. Like a true enthusiast, the current owner continued to maintain and service the car keeping a healthy history file documenting invoices and works.

Seen today in fabulous condition, this desirable original right-hand drive example retains its factory-correct colour combination. All brightwork can be seen with attractive shine with minimal road pitting. The Dark Blue leather continues to impress as you settle in the classic finished cabin, with a beautifully kept and period-correct aluminium centre console and dash fascia, surrounded by exceptionally kept Blue leather and carpets. Once the rebuilt 3.8l XK engines fires up, the E-type it smoothly swept down the road by its rebuilt 4-speed manual moss box, offering a classic driving experience from what was an industry marvel of its time.
