An early Series 1 roadster, treated to a full restoration and completed in an attractive and classic Jaguar combination of Opalescent Maroon, Maroon interior and complementing black hood, a factory finish matching the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Certificate. A fine example ready to be enjoyed.

Manufactured 3rd March 1964, this eye-catching roadster was picked off the production line for a Mr Rimmell, the Son-in-Law to nonother than Mr. Jaguar himself, Sir William Lyons, founder and managing director of Jaguar Cars Limited. Later years would see the E-type become well-travelled and believed to have been exported to Zambia and Argentina, to be enjoyed in a sunny and dry climate, helping to preserve the classic iconic bodywork.

The E-type would later return to the UK and in 2000 this original right-hand drive example entered its full nut and bolt restoration, under the custodianship of a Mr Wheatcroft. Delivered to a renowned Oxfordshire classic car restoration specialist as a dismantled bodyshell with an accompanying box of original parts, the firm was tasked with the lengthy project to bring this classic back to life.

Given the full treatment, the 1964 example was taken back to bare metal and finished in factory correct Opalescent Maroon over Maroon. The restoration was completed in 2006 and had produced a stunning example which presented the owner with a good as new classic sportscar. Throughout the restoration process, Mr Wheatcroft kept an extensive invoice history with detailed descriptions of work undertaken, including paperwork for bodywork, mechanicals and trim. Also featured in the history folder are several photographs taken throughout the restoration displaying IRS refurbishment, metalwork and shell respray.

The roadster saw a change of ownership early in 2007 to its current owner, where for over 10 years the Series 1 remained treasured in Hampshire. Continuing to document and build the E-types history folder, the current owner has also kept a consistent invoicing record for undertaken work from general servicing to the installation of retrofit sound system. It is understood that the E-type had remained in storage for 5 years, until 2018 when the owner had the vehicle re-commissioned ready for its return to the road.

As a result of the E-types 2006 restoration, having been taken back to bare metal and with all metal work addressed and resolved, this roadster is presented is in great condition with little road wear. From the Series 1’s finish, it is clear the car was held to a high standard with the paintwork still retaining an excellent shine today. The car's chrome has also stood the test of time since its restoration, displaying minimal pitting and helping to enhance that classic look Malcolm Sayer has initially intended for the Jaguar E-type. Also treated to a retrim and finished in heritage correct Maroon leather with a period correct aluminium centre console and dash. With little signs of stress, both the seats and instruments are in good and working condition, helping to create a classic 60’s cabin environment.

During the mechanical stage of its restoration, the owner took the opportunity to improve the daily running of the car to create a more reliable driving experience, upgrading the braking system to a 4.2 set up, alongside fitting a modern cooling system. Apart from these running improvements, this late 3.8 has been kept largely original even retaining a period correct 4-speed Moss gearbox, which still offers a precise gear selection.
