A genuine matching numbers and original right-hand drive example, that was built on 28th November 1964 and believed to be the 28th 4.2-litre Series 1 roadster to be produced in RHD. Benefiting from over 40 years cherished ownership by its current owner, this E-type presents a rare opportunity to own an original and highly driveable classic 60's sports car.

Since leaving the production line in November 1964, believed to be the 28th right-hand drive 4.2-litre roadster to roll out from the iconic Coventry factory, the E-type was delivered to Henlys Limited, London. The Series 1 was first registered in February 1965 as confirmed by a scanned copy of the original ‘green logbook’ issued by the DVLC. This original document was retained and unfortunately later lost by the DVLC, along with the earliest history of the vehicle. However, evidence from its later restoration highlighted the car had been subject to some accidental exterior damage and presumably it was at this time the colour was changed from factory Opalescent Silver Grey to Red.

The roadster entered its current ownership in October 1976 where it started a long-cherished ownership that would span across more than 4 decades, mostly residing in Camden, London. The E-type became a regularly used machine, often taking trips to Scotland visiting family, the car was even fitted with a towing hook to transport the families sailing dingy.

1981 started a few years of travel around the Netherlands for this roadster, first shipped to the current owners second home in Rotterdam, 3 years later the car was moved to Voorburg and later in the same year to The Hague where the E-type was used as a daily driver. It was in October 1984 the E-type was taken back to the UK and left in storage for the next 20 years, until Autumn 2004, when it was decided to fully restore this beloved 60’s classic, soon to be actioned by a local Nottingham classic car specialist.

It was the discovery of extensive rust that highlighted the importance of the recently commissioned full nut and bolt restoration to keep this classic on the road. Once taken back to bare metal, the commissioned team began by replacing the rotted floors, scuttle and rear bulkhead. In 2006, with all bodywork complete and finished in primer, a decision was made to hold the project until a future date, so the car was put back into storage.

2009 saw the E-type emerge from storage and continue its restoration, starting with the shell being given a fresh coat of the stunning Red that you see today. With a maximum monthly budget set by the owner, it was agreed the restoration wouldn’t be rushed, maximising cost and quality of the final finished item. Across the following 2 years, the restoration team set out to carefully complete the E-type by rebuilding the independent rear suspension (IRS), original XK engine and reassembling the interior and all running components. The E-type hit a milestone in August 2011 when the car was given its first run and drive in over 7 years.

It was in late in 2013 the restoration specialists handed over the keys of the now beautifully finished Red with freshly retrimmed Beige interior and matching soft top Series 1 roadster. Up to this day, this fabulous classic has continued to live a cherished life with its owner of over 40 years, becoming more than a mode of transport and instead, a member of the family, even starring as the wedding car in one of the children’s summer wedding last year.

The E-type is accompanied by an extensive history file, with numerous invoices, work documents and a beautifully put together photographic history book, alongside a Jaguar Heritage Certificate, confirming the vehicles matching chassis numbers.

Today the E-type is presented in great running and visual condition, ready for its next owner to take possession of a classic automotive treasure. The aesthetics of the car could be described as a ‘classic’ combination finish, with all-around great panel gaps and an eye-catching shine from the paintwork and brightwork. The interior continues to please as you sit comfortably in the retrimmed 4.2 seats behind a period correct 16” three-spoke steering wheel, surrounded by a well-maintained beige interior, door cards and carpets. The engine and all the mechanicals have been properly and consistently maintained since their rebuild in 2013, boasting a period correct setup and yet still offering a highly drivable classic.
