THE BRIEF
The owner wanted to enjoy the car as often as possible, particularly on longer road trips and touring holidays, but found the original Series 2 specification discouraged regular use.
Whilst the E-Type retained all the charm that made it special, motorway cruising, modern traffic and longer distances highlighted compromises that reduced confidence behind the wheel.
The brief was simple: create an E-Type that remained unmistakably original in character, but felt significantly more relaxed and enjoyable to drive on today's roads.
PROGRAMME SPECIFICATION
Following an initial consultation, we developed a touring-focused programme centred around four key areas.
- Electronic Fuel Injection: Improved starting, smoother drivability and more consistent engine performance in all conditions.
- Five-Speed Gearbox: Lower cruising engine speeds for quieter, more relaxed motorway driving and improved touring comfort.
- Performance Cooling Package: Greater confidence during summer driving, heavy traffic and extended journeys.
- Sports Braking Upgrade: Improved braking confidence and pedal feel to better suit modern roads and traffic conditions.
THE RESULT
The completed programme transformed the ownership experience.
Rather than fundamentally changing the E-Type, the upgrades removed many of the compromises that had limited how often the owner chose to drive it.
The car now starts reliably, cruises comfortably, remains composed in modern traffic and inspires far greater confidence over longer distances, whilst retaining the character and involvement that define the E-Type. The result is an E-Type that's no less authentic, only far more usable.
