THE BRIEF
For this owner, simply restoring the E-Type to standard specification was never going to be enough.
The ambition was to create a Series 1 Roadster that retained everything evocative about the original car, but delivered a far more developed experience when the road opened up.
Subtle visual changes would draw inspiration from Jaguar's motorsport heritage, but the real transformation needed to happen beneath the surface.
The brief was therefore centred around modernised fast-road performance – greater response, stronger usable power and a chassis capable of confidently exploiting it, without turning the E-Type into an uncompromising race or track car.
Every major system needed to work together.
PROGRAMME SPECIFICATION
At the heart of the programme was a comprehensive development of Jaguar's XK straight-six.
- 4.7-Litre Fast Road Engine: The original 4.2-litre architecture was developed to 4.7 litres, creating significantly greater usable torque and performance across the rev range.
- Twin-Spark Cylinder Head: Two spark plugs per cylinder support improved combustion efficiency and responsiveness, creating a particularly distinctive evolution of the XK engine.
- Electronic Fuel Injection: Fully programmed fuel delivery provides precise fuelling, consistency and immediate response across different driving conditions.
- Five-Speed Gearbox: Broader flexibility through the gears allows the driver to exploit the additional engine performance while providing a more relaxed cruising ratio when the pace settles.
Rather than creating isolated areas of additional performance, the engine, drivetrain, cooling, suspension and braking were developed as one cohesive fast-road package.
THE RESULT
This is an E-Type that rewards being driven properly.
The 4.7-litre engine delivers the flexibility and torque to make meaningful progress without relying solely on high revs, while twin-spark ignition and electronic fuel injection provide the clean, immediate response expected from a carefully developed fast-road engine.
The five-speed gearbox makes that performance easier to exploit, while the developed suspension and braking systems give the driver the control and confidence required to use it.
Yet outright speed was never the only objective.
The finished Roadster remains balanced, progressive and unmistakably an E-Type. It simply has considerably more performance – and considerably more capability to support it.
