Grand Touring Comfort | 1972 V12 Roadster

PROGRAMME SUMMARY

Vehicle: 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 Roadster
Programme: Grand Touring Comfort
Objective: Redefine the owners use of the car, allowing for greater confidence in its use.
Primary Upgrades: Engine Capacity Enhancement • Electronic Fuel Injection • All Climate Cooling • Sports Braking • Performance Suspension

THE BRIEF

Having owned the car for many years, the client had always envisioned creating the ultimate V12 grand tourer.

While the Series 3 already offered refinement beyond earlier E-Types, he felt the driving experience still demanded too many compromises. Long motorway journeys required constant attention to engine temperatures, fuel consumption and reliability, while the overall driving experience lacked the confidence and ease expected from a car intended to cover significant distances.

Rather than requesting individual upgrades, the client approached E-Type UK with a simple objective.

Create a V12 E-Type capable of modern long-distance touring, combining effortless performance, dependable reliability and genuine comfort without compromising the character that makes the Series 3 so special.

PROGRAMME SPECIFICATION

Rather than fitting individual upgrades in isolation, we developed an integrated programme where every modification complemented the next.

  • 6.1-litre V12 Engine Development: Enhanced performance, improved drivability and increased flexibility, delivering effortless torque and a more refined driving experience.
  • Electronic Fuel Injection: Reliable hot and cold starting, smoother throttle response and more consistent engine performance in all weather conditions.
  • Performance Cooling Package: Improved temperature stability during heavy traffic, warm weather and extended touring, allowing the car to be driven with greater confidence.
  • Air Conditioning: Modern climate control provides greater comfort in warmer weather, making the E-Type more enjoyable and practical for extended touring.
  • Uprated Braking System: Improved braking performance and pedal feel, better suited to modern traffic conditions whilst maintaining predictable, confidence-inspiring control.
  • Grand Touring Suspension Specification: Refined ride quality, improved body control and greater stability, creating a more composed and confidence-inspiring driving experience on today's roads.

THE RESULT

The completed E-Type feels less like a restored classic and more like the car Jaguar might have built had modern engineering been available in 1972.

The engine delivers effortless torque, motorway cruising becomes quieter and more relaxed, while modern traffic can be enjoyed without constantly monitoring gauges or anticipating mechanical compromises.

Perhaps most importantly, confidence has replaced hesitation. Whether driving locally, touring through Europe or spending hours on the motorway, the owner simply gets in and drives, knowing the car has been developed to perform consistently in real-world conditions.
