Celebrity E-Type Owners
Since the Series 1 model was released in March 1961, the Jaguar E-Type has been adored by the general public and famous figures alike. After all, the E-Type was reputedly named the “most beautiful car in the world” by none other than Enzo Ferrari, so it should come as no surprise that countless celebrities have fallen in love with the charismatic allure of this beloved classic sports car. Here are some of our favourite celebrity owners of the legendary E-Type.
George Harrison
Known as a huge lover of cars, George Harrison, lead guitarist of the Beatles, had an extensive collection of cars. Amongst an Aston Martin DB5, a McLaren F1 and countless other cars, the famous Beatle owned none other than the Jaguar E-Type.
The legend is that Brian Epstein, who managed the Beatles and was often referred to as the fifth Beatle, bought George the iconic Jaguar E-Type for his 21st birthday. The car was customised and even featured a dash-mounted record-player - where can we get one?
Frank Sinatra
Renowned as one of the most influential musical artists of the 20th century, Frank Sinatra is not just one of the best selling music artists of all time, but also the owner of a Series 1 E-Type! Said to be a true gentleman of style, from his iconic trilby hats to orange pocket-handkerchiefs, it’s unsurprising that he fell for the stylish and iconic bodywork of the E-Type.
He’s said to have taken one look at the Jaguar upon its 1961 reveal and said: “I want that car, and I want it now”. Well, when the ‘chairman of the board’ wants a Jaguar E-Type, who could deny him!
Peter Sellers and Britt Ekland
Peter Sellers, an English film actor, is most remembered for his role as Chief Inspector Clouseau in the original The Pink Panther film series but did you know he was also an owner of a Jaguar E-Type?
Purchased for his wife Britt Ekland in 1967, Peter Sellers’ E-Type was actually one of the very last Series 1 models from the production line. Featuring a special order Fiesta red finish with black upholstery, the E-Type also had uniquely fitted sports wing mirrors.
Tony Curtis
Acting in films alongside other famous actors of the time like Marilyn Monroe and Cary Grant, Tony Curtis is best remembered for his work in films such as “Some Like It Hot” and “Operation Petticoat”. Not only was he an Oscar-nominated performer, but Tony Curtis was also a lover of cars, owning a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III drophead coupe, as well as - you guessed it! A series 1.5 E-Type roadster!
Elton John
From his entirely unique sense of fashion to his unforgettable hits, it’s no wonder that Elton John is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. When not behind his piano or performing, Elton John was building his incredible collection of classic cars. Our favourite feature of the collection was his hot red 1965 Jaguar XKE 4.2-Litre Series I Roadster. Unfortunately, Elton has since downsized his collection, including his classic red Jaguar E-Type which was auctioned off in 2012.
