Kick Off 2020 Right | 3 Month Show Guide

With 2019 almost behind us, we are now looking ahead to 2020 with another full year of events to attend, it doesn’t take long for the year to kick in. Below is a look at what is coming up in just the first 3 months of 2020:

Scottsdale
11th – 19th January

If you haven’t done a Barrett-Jackson auction before then it is a must-see, bringing everything from Cadillac Eldorado to a McLaren Senna. Barrett-Jackson has become large enough in its own right to bring Bonhams, RM Sotheby’s and Gooding & Co to the same patch year in, year out.

Paris Retromobile
5th – 9th February

The European season kicks off under 3 weeks later in Paris for the annual Paris Retromobile. Everyone agrees that Paris really sets the standards for shows and The City of Lights doesn’t disappoint whatever the weather may throw at it. With a strong UK dealer presence and the major auction houses getting underway, Paris Retromobile is a must-visit year in, year out.

London Classic Car Show
20th – 23rd February

Having moved to London Olympia from the ever difficult to get to ExCel London, it will be interesting to see how the show has evolved. The show has in recent years attracted a variety of stands and displays and with an emphasis on bringing quality in 2020, it should be worth a trip.

Retro Classics Stuttgart
27th Feb – 1st March

Coming into its 20th year as a show, Retro Classics Stuttgart has gone from strength to strength. Generally regarded as an inferior show to Techno Essen which is held just a month later. Retro Classics Stuttgart brings together a good mix of classics and modern cars and much easier to get to than Essen, just a short walk from Stuttgart Airport.

Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance
5th – 8th March

The travel to Amelia Island is not for the faint-hearted, with no direct flights into Jacksonville, it means flying via Dallas or Miami and then driving the final 40 minutes into Amelia. Regarded as a Pebble Beach for the East Coast, Jacksonville can fall victim to severe weather. Although with a more relaxed and varied show field, the event is enjoyable and laid back, once again with all major auction houses present, there is plenty to see during the day.

Techno Essen
25th – 29th March

Similar to that of Stuttgart, Essen welcomed an auction house in 2019 to the line-up allowing RM Sotheby’s to test its wares on buyers. The show itself is HUGE with hall after hall of just about everything and anything classic car related. With of course a big Mercedes Benz presence, allow yourself a few days to see everything and take good walking shoes.

Goodwood Members Meeting
28th – 29th March

Personally, one of our favourites, imagine Goodwood Revival with fewer people and no dress-up. There is something about being in 50s/ 60s attire at Goodwood but going in March you are thankful to be able to wrap up and keep warm. The racing is no less ferocious, the 2019 highlight being the Betty Richmond Trophy with 60 minis racing in 2 heats and a final shoot out, the eventual winner being decided on the 2nd to the last corner – what racing!

So, with just 4 weeks until the 2020 season starts, don’t sit on ceremony, our advice is book early as the shows may not sell out but the hotels sure do. In the meantime, have a great Christmas and New Year and we hope to catch up with you at one of the above events.
