MORE ABOUT THIS CAR...

Introduced in 1971, the Series 3 E-Type was a continued attempt to appeal to the US-market, Jaguar’s biggest buyer, the wheelbase was lengthened, power steering included as well as Jaguar’s brand new roadgoing V12 engine, thus engineering an E-Type much more comfortable and capable of being dubbed a “Grand Tourer”. To keep the E-Type in tune with 70’s design, flared wheel arches were added and a redesigned enclosed grille as well as other, more subtle changes. While never the favoured choice by Jaguar enthusiast, more recent years has since seen the Series 3 rise in popularity and investment, as the model offers a 70’s classic with countless potential to be a 2020 daily driver.

From a US-spec Series 3 roadster to a beautifully restored UK grand tourer. Available from the E-Type UK Kent showroom is this 2018 fully restored E-Type UK Series 3. A matching numbers roadster finished in Opalescent Gunmetal with Oxblood Red interior. Complete with a freshly fitted matching body colour hardtop while still retaining it retrimmed Black mohair hood.

Originally delivered to British Leyland, New York in July 1971 offered as original left-hand drive manual boasting the classic combination of Pale Primrose Yellow over Black, one of the earliest Series 3 examples and part of the 21st run of cars manufactured. Believed to have remained in the states for the most part of its early history, as highlighted by a recorded Puerto Rico Department of Motor Vehicles title, placing the E-type in the ownership of a Mr Del Valle Cruz of San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 2009.

2015 saw the E-type imported to the UK, remaining unrestored and boasting its factory finish. The E-type was quickly made available for sale via a North Yorkshire classic Jaguar specialist of Harrogate. A year on and the E-type arrived at the E-Type UK’s Kent facility to be treated to gradual full restoration and to finished in useable UK specification which included left to right-hand drive conversion.

Starting its restoration, the E-type was handed to our specialist metalwork team to be fully stripped and taken back to bare metal, revealing previous shabby repairs and more importantly… rust. A deeper investigation highlighted the E-type required new floor pans, sills and other sections as these parts had been patched up and covered over multiple times with different metals. Working with the customer's desire to retain as much of the original metalwork and factory markings as possible, the team began fabricating new panels and structures to weld in place of the old. Taking advantage of its substantial restoration, the car was treated to full colour changed and finished in the hugely popular combination of Opalescent Gunmetal and Oxblood Red. Alongside updating the aesthetic, attention was equally focused on the mechanicals fitting a range up upgrades which include:

  • Fuel Injection
  • 5-Speed Gearbox
  • Stainless Steel Exhaust
  • Upgraded Cooling
  • Bespoke Wheels and Tyres

The above was paired with the original and fully rebuilt 5.3L V12 and an uprated 5-speed gearbox, the E-Type UK team begins to see this E-type forming into a truly great Grand Tourer.

Once fully restored and delivered Summer 2018, the current custodian proceeded to treasure the Series 3, safely dry storing and using the example sparingly. 12 months later and a change in circumstances saw the E-type return to E-Type UK for fitment of a body-coloured hardtop and finally offered for sale.

Presenting a rare opportunity to invest in a freshly restored and sparingly used Series 3, completed to the highest standard and presented in an industry loved combination of Opalescent Gunmetal over Oxblood Red. Fitted with countless upgrades that turn this early 70’s example into a desirable sports car offering a modern driving experience.
